A drill press vise is very useful but they can be expensive and the cheap ones suck. To make it i used: The faithfull vdp75 drill press vice is a solid cast iron vice press with an impressive clamping capacity, allowing for larger materials to be drilled accurately in our pillar drill.
I ended up making two of them.
When drilling steel i use a drop of oil and i'm not that careful with it. It functions as a fantastic grasping tool delivering a lot of stability in your work, and you can securely carry out most tasks and drill into various materials.
